PRESS RELEASE
Jubitz celebrates 50th anniversary PORTLAND, Ore. July 23, 2002 What began as small truck leasing business in 1952 has grown into a major travel center known nationwide for its wide range of services to truckers and tourists alike. This year, Jubitz celebrates the 50th anniversary of a company that has experienced tremendous growth and is consistently rated as one of the top ten travel centers in the U.S. In an era of multi-location franchises, Jubitz remains a single location, family owned business, headed by the two sons of Monroe “Moe” Jubitz, who founded the company 50 years ago. Today, Jubitz Travel Center—located just east of I-5 at exit 307 near the Oregon/Washington border—contains more services and entertainment venues than the average small town. In addition to the 26 diesel and eight gasoline fueling pumps, Jubitz features a 100-room hotel, a full-service restaurant, a lounge featuring live country western music nightly, movie theater, gift shop, delicatessen, convenience store, barbershop/hair salon and laundromat. For professional truck drivers, there’s a tire sales and retreading facility, business lounge, medical clinic, chiropractor and boot repair shop. "The success and longevity of Jubitz can be traced to our dads unending commitment to customer service," said Jubitz Corporation co-president Fred Jubitz, who started working at the truck stop washing trucks when he was 12 years old. "Dad did his own market research. He asked customers what they needed and added services that met those needs." The trucking and travel industry has gone through many changes in the past 50 years, and as other family-owned fueling operations have been replaced by corporate-owned chains, Jubitz has thrived. "Instead of expanding our business by opening new locations, weve chosen to expand and improve our services at a single location and create an extraordinary travel center," said Jubitz co-president Al Jubitz. "It’s also been an incubator for many new products and services." Two years ago, Jubitz Corporation completed a multi-million dollar renovation and expansion that doubled the capacity of its Portlander Inn, added a banquet facility and additional seating to its Cascade Grill restaurant, added a second dance floor to the Ponderosa Lounge, and created a retail mini mall where guests can purchase food, gifts and necessities or take in a first run movie. Known as Portlander Inn and Marketplace, the facility has become a favorite destination for local residents as well as for drivers. Today, the Jubitz Corporation is a privately-owned company with four divisions: Jubitz Travel Center, Jubitz Tire & Retreading, Jubitz Fleet Services and Portlander Inn and Marketplace. Jubitz Corporation has been ranked among Oregon Business Magazines top 150 privately-owned companies in Oregon over the past decade. Jubitzs future looks bright. Truck transportation continues to grow as the top choice for moving freight across the U.S. "Trucks and the traveling public continue to play an integral part in our economy, and 50 years from now Im sure there will still be a need for places like Jubitz where trucks and cars can refuel and drivers can refresh," said Fred Jubitz. |
